The Unified Astronomy Thesaurus: Semantic Metadata for Astronomy and Astrophysics
Several different controlled vocabularies have been developed and used by the astronomical community, each designed to serve a specific need and a specific group. The Unified Astronomy Thesaurus (UAT) attempts to provide a highly structured controlled vocabulary that will be relevant and useful across the entire discipline, regardless of content or platform. As two major use cases for the UAT i...

The Unified Astronomy Thesaurus (UAT) is an open, interoperable and community-supported thesaurus which unifies the existing divergent and isolated Astronomy & Astrophysics vocabularies into a single high-quality, freely-available open thesaurus formalizing astronomical concepts and their inter-relationships. The UAT builds upon the existing IAU Thesaurus with major contributions from the astro...

We present the first results of the analysis of data collected during the 1998-99 observational campaign at the 1.3 meter McGraw-Hill Telescope, towards the Andromeda galaxy (M31), aimed to the detection of gravitational microlensing effects as a probe of the presence of dark matter in our and in M31 halo. The analysis is performed using the pixel lensing technique, which consists in the study ...

ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS HV Ursae Majoris, a new contact binary with early-type components ⋆ Abstract. We present the first U BV and uvby photomet-ric observations for the short period variable star HV Ur-sae Majoris classified as a field RRc variable. The observed differences between the consecutive minima and the lack of colour variations disagree with the RRc-classification and suggest the...

We present CCD uvbyβ photometry for stars in the nuclei of the young double cluster h and χ Persei. We find that the reddening is highly variable through the h Per nucleus, increasing from west to east, with values ranging from E(b − y) = 0.328 ± 0.022 in the western part to E(b − y) = 0.465 ± 0.024 in the southeast. Towards χ Per the reddening is fairly constant, with E(b − y) = 0.398 ± 0.025....
